It’s that time of the week again. Speculative Fiction News (SFN) time.
This week, let’s start off with this good cause: Authors for Japan. Please read it, and please think seriously about donating something if you qualify. If you feel you don’t qualify, why not pick something up at the auction?
Next up is an article about taxes. Yep, that’s right. Here are some Tax Tips for Writers.
Have you heard of the Tähtifantasia Award? It’s for the best translated fantasy book published in Finnish. Here are this year’s nominees.
Ellen Datlow’s Best Horror of the Year Full Honorable Mentions List for 2010 is out. Part 2 can be accessed by clicking on the next arrow up top.
Here is Asimov’s April/May TOC. This includes sample content of two of the novelettes. Yep, free Asimov’s samplage. Rush over and sample, peeps.
Per chance, are you interested in the editing thoughts of Sheila Williams, editor-in-chief of Asimov’s? Of course you are. Here is an interview she did with duotrope.
But wait, there’s more editor interview goodness courtesy of duotrope. Here is their interview with Daily Science Fiction co-editor Jonathan Laden.
Are you a fan of Beneath Ceaseless Skies? Well, here’s your chance to get The Best of Beneath Ceaseless Skies Online Magazine, Year One.
Clarkesworld is doing a .99c ebook experiment with issue #54 for the rest of the month. Spread the word. And buy an ebook, too.
The .pdf and .epub versions of Redstone SF #10 are now available.
Three-Lobed Burning Eye’s Annual, Vol. 5 is out and ready to buy.
Interzone 233 is also out and about.
Wanna read a free story from Electric Velocipede #21/22? Well, here is Locus-recommended InfiniteMo (the title’s actually a cool infinity sign, but wordpress can’t handle that, unfortunately).
Here is this week’s story from Lightspeed: Gossamer, by Stephen Baxter.
Markets and Contests
ARCANE–Penny Dreadfuls for the 21st Century is a brand new market. Pay rate is 1c a word, and they prefer stories within the 1k-6k range. (ftr–i had this ready to go for the blog a whole 24 hours before duotrope listed it. True! )
Kzine–a new British spec fic mag. At this stage it looks to be only open to UK writers, and payment terms aren’t concrete, but it’s worth keeping an eye on, particularly if you’re in the UK.
PARSEC Ink’s Science Fiction and Fantasy Short Story Contest has opened for this year’s subs. Full details here (yes, i know the website kills eyes, but the prize money isn’t too bad).
Psuedopod is back open to subs.
Strange Horizons is closed to subs until the 20th of March.
Write 1 Sub 1
Absolute Write has created a subforum especially for Write 1 Sub 1. Coolness!
And that’s almost it (i have this nagging feeling i’ve forgotten a zine TOC or two). Let’s finish with this feel-good news item (if you’re a Star Wars fan, that is): far, far away.
